The REES Remembers

It’s not often that you get the opportunity to recreate your first date. Maybe the place you had dinner is now closed or the movie you saw is definitely not in theaters any more. Kay and John Finlay went on their first date in the winter of 1990. They had dinner at the Brass Rail and caught a movie at The REES.

Fast forward to Friday, June 2, 2023. The Brass Rail is still serving and the newly-restored REES just so happened to be showing the same movie they saw in the 90s, Ghost starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore. And 33 years later, Kay and John went on their second first date.

Spotlight

The REES has recently added a member to the team, so it is only right that this month we turn the spotlight on him! Jackson Garrison is The REES’ new Front of House Manager but this isn’t the first time he’s done work for The REES. His 2016 short film The REES - Past, Present, Future, which can be found here, offers viewers insight into The REES’ history and speculates about The REES’ potential to once again play a vital role in our community. Please join us in welcoming Jackson back to Plymouth!

Morgan: How long have you been involved with The REES? What made you want to get involved?

Jackson: Aside from attending movies at the REES as a kid, I've only just moved back to Plymouth to get involved. The opportunity to help the REES as House Manager seemed like a wonderful chance to give back to this spectacular gem of the community!

M: As the newest member of The REES team, what project are you most excited to start working on?

J: I'm especially interested in the future of the upstairs speakeasy space. I hope that my involvement here will free up enough time that the ball can start rolling on that facet of the REES.

M: What other organizations/events are you involved in around our community? (I want to plug all the other amazing stuff you do!)

J: I am looking forward to joining Kiwanis, Rotary, Leadership Marshall County, and the Arts Council in the coming weeks to represent the REES. Historically, I'm more of a hobby guy, and so working on and operating my antique car as a part of the Hoosier A's Model A Ford Club, or perhaps sticking it in the Blueberry parade as a "float" for the REES is on my calendar!

M: What has been your favorite REES event to date? What June event are you most looking forward to?

J: Unfortunately, I missed what would've been my favorite event! Josh Duffee is a friend of mine and I was very sorry to have missed his concert. I hope that he may return one day, but for June, I'll be looking forward to seeing the fruits of Kathryn's labor with the community theatre production of Steel Magnolias. She's been working so hard on that and I am excited to see how it turns out.
